Wa, Nov 28, GNA – Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson on Saturday gave the assurance that religious leaders in the country would continue to pray for peaceful elections in December.
He has also called on Ghanaians prayer for the Lord to shower his blessings on the nation before, during and after the elections. The Cardinal gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy call on Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama at the Regional Residency at Wa. They both arrived at Wa in the Upper West Regional capital on Saturday for different assignments.
While Cardinal Turkson was there to attend the Diamond Jubilee of the Catholic Church in the Region, Vice President Mahama was there to attend the funeral of the Late Mr Slyvannus Ganfaa, former District Chief Executive of the Laura District and to participate in the Kakube festival of the chiefs and people of the Nadom Traditional Area.
Cardinal Turkson said Ghana was now seen as a beacon of hope, stability and peace and called on all politicians to fight hard to maintain this strive so that other countries could draw inspiration from Ghana.
Vice President Mahama said the government had created an enabling environment for peaceful elections but appealed to Ghanaians to play a vital role in ensuring peaceful elections.
He commended the Catholic Church for contributing to development, especially in the religion, education and social sectors in the Northern sector of the country.
The Vice President said the government would continue to preach peace and love towards unity and development.
Peter Cardinal would also celebrate mass at the Wa St. Andrews Cathedral Parish on Sunday to climax the weeklong celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Church in the Region.
