Nsuta (W/R), Feb. 24, GNA – Hundreds of people from all walks of life on Sunday lined the streets of Nsuta near Tarkwa in the Wassa West District to welcome His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Kojo Appiah-Turkson to Nsuta, his birth place for the first time since his elevation. The teeming crowd waved white handkerchiefs, amid cheering and dancing to brass band music in a three-hour procession through the streets of the town.
A delegation of chiefs, the Clergy and opinion leaders, led by The Very Reverend Father Paul Erzuah Babodu, Vicar General of the Sekondi-Takoradi diocese of the Catholic Church had earlier met Cardinal Appiah-Turkson at the outskirts of the town.
Cardinal Appiah-Turkson, in a speech expressed his gratitude to the people, especially his family, friends, teachers and all those he came in contact with during his youthful days.
Cardinal Appiah-Turkson, who is also the president of the Ghana Bishops Conference said, his elevation was an act of providence and linked to the growth of the Catholic Church in Ghana.
He called on Christians to eschew dishonesty and selfishness, and always express love and fellow feeling to all manner of people and also offer dedicated service not only to God but also to the country. Cardinal Appiah-Turkson urged parents to live up to their responsibilities by inculcating hard work, honesty and other moral values in their children.
Welcoming him earlier, Rev. Father Babodu described Cardinal Appiah-Turkson as “humble and respected chiefs shepherd of God”.
