Car Washer Goes In For Five Years

Accra A car washer, who bolted with a customer’s car valued at eleven million cedis, was today jailed five years by an Accra circuit court. George Mensah, 35, pleaded guilty to stealing the car belonging to Mr. Mark Anum Boye, a businessman. Fatsi Babalola, 36, and Jonas Tornu, 39, both drivers who appeared with Mensah pleaded guilty to dishonestly receiving parts of the stolen car. They were cautioned and discharged after they had asked the court to deal with them leniently. Both drivers told the court that they knew Mensah as a car washer and thought the owner of the parts have authorised him to dispose of the items. The court, in discharging them, reminded them that ignorance is no defence in law and were advised to buy their spare parts from genuine dealers.
