Car thief jailed 10 years

Kumasi, Sept. 20, GNA – Abdallah Awudu, a 22-year old car thief has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court. Awudu who pleaded guilty faced the charges of stealing a KIA taxi, illegal possession of firearm and unlawful entry.

His other accomplice, whose name was only given as Abudu, is on the run and the police have mounted a search for him.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Doris Amewu told the court presided over by Justice D.W.P Amedior that the complainant, Ebenezer Kwame Nsowaah, is a taxi driver who resides at Kotwi in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District.

She said on September 8, Nsowaah parked his taxi in his house after close of work at about 2000 hours and retired to bed. She said he woke up at midnight to urinate only to find that the vehicle had been stolen.

She said the complainant made a formal report to the police and on the following day at about 0100hours a joint police-military patrol team intercepted the car at Anomangye and arrested Awudu.

Superintendent Amewu said Awudu in his caution statement admitted the crime.
