Car snatchers busted at Kasoa

The Awutu Beraku police in the Central region yesterday arrested two car snatchers.

The two, Desmond Appiah and Yaw Yeboah, were arrested at Jei Rivers, near Kasoa Ofaakor, when they attempted to bolt with a red taxi-cab with registration number: GW 5457-13 they had seized from a driver.

A source at the Awutu Beraku police revealed to Today that the two suspects had boarded the Taxi cab from the Awutu Beraku Circuit Court premises where they had gone to witness proceedings.

After boarding the taxi, the suspected robbers asked the driver to take them to Bawjiase, the source continued.

In the middle of the route, the two attacked and succeeded in tying up the driver who they put in the boot of the taxi and attempted to abscond with the car.

A farmer who witnessed the incident from his farm, the police source said, contacted Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Adusei of the Awutu Beraku police on phone and reported the incident.

ASP Adusei then ordered the Awutu Beraku police to chase the taxi.

According to the source, the police after catching up with the suspected thieves were able to arrest them after they attempted to jump out of the car.

The case has since been referred to the Kasoa District Police Command for investigations and prosecution.

However, the public has started raising concerns over the treatment meted out to the alleged car stealers at the Awutu Police station where they were stripped naked in the presence of the police.

People have started referring to a similar incident at the Accra Mall as they are calling for investigations into the matter.
