Car crush kills 2 mourners, injures 11 in Suhum

Two persons are confirmed dead and eleven others in critical condition at the Suhum Government Hospital after an accident on Saturday, 13 February, 2016.

The crash occurred at Kyekyewere, a town along the Accra-Kumasi highway in the Eastern Region.

The Police Commander for Suhum Municipality, Superintendent Yaaya Mushiraru, who confirmed the accident to ClassFMonline.com, said one person died soon after the accident and “the second person died at night and the police is yet to arrest the driver of the car”, who is currently on the run.

The Mitsubishi pick-up with registration number ER 3595-11 was conveying mourners from Teacher Mante to Adeiso when the accident occurred.

Reports indicate that the driver tried to overtake a car, but in an attempt to dodge another oncoming car in the opposite direction to prevent a head-on collision, the car skidded off the main road and somersaulted, resulting in injuries and the loss of lives.
