Captains of industry in Ghana will soon be allowed into the various lecture halls to share their practical experience on the job with students, Deputy Education Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has stated.
According to him, the move is part of an ongoing attempt by the education ministry to help equip undergrads with practical knowledge on the job environment before they leave school and to gradually move away from the traditional system where only academics are allowed to teach in the tertiary institutions.
“Early this year, we organised the Bridging the Gap conference and we brought in all the experts including the Association of Ghana Industries and all the others and it was clear there was a gap,” the former deputy information minister told MORNING STARR host Kafui Dey on Monday.
He added: “We identified clear gaps and one of the outcomes is really what we are doing with the polytechnics, ensuring that entrepreneurs; captains of industries can be allowed to teach once they offer their services.”
He said the ministry hopes to achieve success with the initiative since it has proven productive in several other countries, including Germany.
