Captain Mahama murder: NPP anticipates justice ‘as quickly as possible’

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has backed its leader’s call for a full-scale investigation into the murder of Ghana Armed Forces’ Captain, Maxwell Adam Mahama.

Captain Mahama was lynched on Monday, May 29 at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region for reasons yet to be known.

Initial reports, however, said he was mistaken for an armed robber.

In a statement signed by Acting General Secretary John Boadu on Wednesday, May 31, the NPP condemned the act and advised Ghanaians especially the youth “to desist from taking the law into their own hands and rather resort to due process in their pursuit for justice at all-time”.

It described the act as “dastardly” and “ungodly…regardless of what may have prompted same”, reiterating President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo’s “call for a full scale investigation into the matter with immediate effect in order to bring all the perpetrators to justice”.

The ruling party applauded the Ghana Armed Forces for the exercise of restraint displayed “under the circumstances”.

It expressed condolences “to all especially the wife and children of the deceased and anticipates that JUSTICE would be served in this matter as quickly as possible and within the ambit of the law”.
