Capt Effah-Dartey re-elected

Berekum (B/A) Aug. 2, GNA – Captain Nkrabea Effah-Dartey (rtd), New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum was re-elected at the weekend to contest the Constituency Parliamentary Seat on the ticket of the Party in Election 2004. Capt Effah-Dartey, a Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, polled 79 votes to beat his only challenger Mr Francis Manu Gyan, an Administrator of Volta Regional Office of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), who had 10 votes.

The NPP Primaries held at Berekum on Saturday was conducted and supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission. Present were Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways; Miss Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education and Mrs Cecilia Gyan, MP for Asutifi South. Capt. Effah-Dartey thanked the delegates for giving him another mandate to contest for the seat and pledged to continue to work hard for the speedy development of the area.

Mr Gyan pledged to support the MP to retain the seat. Mr Kofi Darko, Regional Organizer of the Party, said the NPP would definitely win both Presidential and Parliamentary elections and called on all to ensure peaceful elections.
