Cape Coast Wesley Methodist fetes the aged

Cape Coast, Dec. 26, GNA – Reverend Isaac Kweku Sam, Superintendent Minister of the Cape Coast Wesley Methodist Church, on Monday called on the aged in society to use their rich experience and wisdom to help solve family and societal disputes to enhance the maintenance of peace. He said as elders and historians of the family, clan and society they were recognized as the “seat of wisdom” and should therefore use their expertise in solving problems involving the family society and the nation at large.

Rev. Sam made the call at a reception organised by the Church for more than 270 aged and invalid parishioners at Cape Coast, under the theme: “The role of the aged in nation building”. Each of them was presented with bread, cakes, soft drinks and cash and were treated to music provided by the Cape Coast Crystal Loins Club and the Church Choir.

Rev Sam said the reception was held annually to remember and appreciate the contributions of the aged towards the development and growth of the Church and the nation.

He underscored the important role the aged played in the past and continued to play to enhance the social, political, economic, religious and cultural status of their families and the nation and urged them to continue to play their role as role models and share their rich experience and wisdom with the youth.

He called on them to be bold enough to point out mistakes of the youth as well as endeavour to evolve programmes that would be helpful to them in their activities.

Rev. Sam also urged the youth to show respect, love, care and support the aged with their needs to enable them live longer, adding that some of them died early due to boredom and poverty. Members of the Crystal Loins later prayed for God’s protection and guidance for the aged and present them with cash 500,000.00 cedis and four crates of soft drinks.
