Cape Coast to get new Science Resource Center

Cape Coast, June 1, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast, Mr. Barton Oduro, has initiated the construction of an ultra-modern science resource centre in Cape Coast as part of measures to redeem fallen educational standards.

The center would comprise laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology. It would house an ICT center with projectors for audio visual learning.

Mr. Oduah Sampson, the Administrative Officer at the office of the MP, who said this, on Monday, said the project would benefit Junior, Senior High, and technical schools in the metropolis. The project, he said, is to help address the problem of lack of laboratories in most of the schools and to help promote interest in the study of the Sciences. The Ghana Education Service (GES), the International Training and Educational Consultancy, (ITEC Ltd) the Oguaaman Council, the Cape Coast Technical Institute and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly are supporting the project. He said his office had held series of discussions with the Head of the Science Resource unit of the GES to identify science oriented projects in educational establishments and assist in equipping them with the requisite facilities to meet high academic standards. He said ITEC Ltd. had also agreed to sponsor the supply of equipment through the GES to upgrade the center to the status of a modern Science Resource center.

Mr. Sampson said the Cape Coast Technical Institute had been tasked to submit a supplementary budget for the structural expansion of the project and added that the project would help create jobs. The Metropolitan Directorate of the GES has, therefore, been tasked to identify Science and ICT teachers particularly, those engaged by the National Youth Employment Programme to run the facility. He expressed the hope that stakeholders would gear their commitment towards ensuring the smooth implementation of the center. 01 June 10
