Cape Coast, Feb. 23, GNA – Mr. Frank Ampiaw, the Deputy Central Regional Librarian, has appealed to the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly and other bodies to help prevent the Cape Coast Regional Library from collapse.
He said the library is bombarded with music from social centres situated close to it, making it difficult for patrons to concentrate. Speaking to Ghana News Agency in an interview in Cape Coast on Friday, Mr Ampiaw said the Ato Austin Garden, which shares boundaries with the library on the left and at the back, hosts funerals at week-ends. “Top Yard” recreational center, which is directly opposite the library, hosts a programme almost everyday and the situation gets worst when both centers host events at the same time.
He said people park their cars indiscriminately and take over the parking space of the library and music from the two centres “virtually forces students out of the library.”
Mr Ampiaw said the situation becomes worst when there is power outage and the two centres switch on their generators. He said patrons of the two social centres deposit so much rubbish and appealed to the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly to act promptly to help solve the problem since the library is losing its clients.
