Doctors at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital are calling on government to ensure regular supply of anti rabies drugs in the country.
The move, they explained is necessary to help stop the dangerous effects of the disease in the country.
The continuous referral cases of rabies situation at the facility, they explained is ample evidence that not only are a lot of people suffering dog attacks in the country but also the many hospitals across the country lack those basic drugs to administer to victims.
Dr. Gyan Laryea who joined a team of veterinary doctors to undertake immunization of animals in some communities in Cape Coast to curtail potential rabies attack in such communities called on the public to be wary of animals who constantly bite people.
Regular and adequate supply of the drug, the health practitioners say will help curtail the effects of rabies as some hospitals tend to administer tetanus injections rather than the anti rabies drug which is the ultimate solution to such animal bites.
They also urged the public to report animal attacks especially that of dogs at the hospitals to prevent possible deaths as late treatment of animal bites yield little results in terms of recovery.
