Capacity Building workshop on Post-Harvest Losses Management Held

The Kowafarms and it’s partners has organized a post- Harvest Losses Management (PHLM) capacity building workshop to enlighten farmers on food security and the need to mitigate climate change in Jasikan District of the Volta Region of Ghana.
Addressing the workshop, Monica Donkor touch on the dryland ecosystem into perspective and outlined the key challenges in the dryland belt Ghana. She said poverty and mitigating climate change is relevant but must constitute opportunities for researchers and their partners.
She express the need to upscale outstanding initiatives to include large landscapes and more communities and encourage participant to devise hand in hands innovative strategies in order to increase the capacity of the societies to manage their natural resources
Monica Donkor urged partners to continue joining hands with KOWAFARMS and seek to address the post-harvest losses Management challenges by adding value to crops develop solution with rural communities.
Mr. Raymond Buami, Project Director at the KOWAFARMS attributed some current issues regarding the dryland system program that include funding, the necessity to develop new projects, necessity of moving the research to existing action site for increase resilience and intensification, develop activities in action sites, map the activities to intermediate outcomes.
He said the project aimed at resolving post-harvest losses, increase income, and enhance food security because farmers lose billions of shillings annually in post-harvest maize grain wastage due to lack of proper storage facilities.
Raymond touched on complexity of agro-ecosystems and made emphasizes on the importance of education, as they focus on the youth, gender and marginalized groups to better integrate the livelihood aspect into this complexity. He also expressed his gratitude to Africa Women Development Fund for supporting the project.
