Capacity-building workshop for female Politicians and leaders held

Though women form the largest proportion of the general and voting population, they are still in minority regarding leadership in many, if not all areas of our society.

The comparably fewer number of qualified women politicians and leaders who could be elected/appointed to play leading roles in various sectors of our economy compounds this challenge.

As a positive intervention and contribution toward addressing this problem, the Women’s Academy for Africa (WAFA), a regional women advocacy and empowerment institution, is thus championing the training and capacity enhancement of female politicians and leaders across the continent.

One of such capacity-building workshops has been organized for selected female participants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The program, a trainer of trainers’ event, was geared at equipping and developing participants and to “build a pool of competent and qualified women trainers” who would go on to train and develop other women.

Drawn from all the regions across the country, the selected participants were taken through topics including Assertiveness, Leadership, Media Strategy and Planning and Campaign Strategy.

The Vice Chair of the WAFA, Anita Desooso and Hajia Zaynab J. Mahama – the National Women’s Organizer of the NDC were present to give inspiring talks on Building and Leveraging Relationships and Networks, Effective Grassroots Leadership, and Grassroots Mobilization and Campaigning.

Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim-Haruna – Commissioner of WAFA – West Africa Region) and Hajia Fati Osman – Workshop Facilitator and NDC Deputy National Women’s Organizer reminded participants of their role of trainers and what is expected of them.

They also expressed their appreciation to the Labour Party/The Westminster Foundation for their support towards the execution of the project.
