Cantonments robbery: Taxi driver gets new car

The management of Koala Supermarket has promised to buy a new car for the taxi driver who crashed into two armed robbers who shot the store’s sales girl over the weekend.

The taxi was heavily damaged as the brave driver rammed into the motorbike of the suspects Abaliku Sannie, 35, and Oko Quaicoo, 30. A supervisor of the shop Gilbert Osabutey is also behind bars for allegedly conniving with the duo to rob the shop.

Koala officials said their gesture is to encourage the driver and others to selflessly come to the aid of others in critical times as their staff.

“God bless them. And God bless everyone who helped,” the elated taxi driver told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Yankson right after Koala announced their plans on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police has also revealed plans to reward the driver and others for their bravery.

“I have the directives of the Inspector-General of Police to announce that at an appropriate time, the taxi driver and all those who contributed to the arrest of the suspects will be handsomely rewarded,” the Director General of CID DCOP Prosper Abloh told the media.

The announcement comes on the back of a call by former President John Rawlings for the nation to honour the taxi driver and others.

The robbers shot the sales girl on her way to deposit the previous day’s sales at the bank. While bolting, the driver rammed into the motorbike of the thieves, forcing them into a nearby drain.

An armed soldier who chanced on the scene intervened to effect the arrest of the duo, who were still shooting in their injured state.
