Sunyani Sept. 29, GNA – An official of the Ghana Food and Drugs Board, has cautioned the general public against canned products. Mr Edward Acheampong, Manager in charge of the Northern Zone of the Board said leaking; bloated and rusty canned products could be harmful to consumers.
Mr Acheampong was speaking at a day’s workshop in Sunyani on Quality Assurance and Environmental Protection, for members of the Business Advisory Centre for Enterprise Support Organisations (ENSUOBA) in the Brong Ahafo Region.
It was organised by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and the President’s Special Initiatives, the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ)-Rural Trade and Industry Promotion Project (RUTIPP) Mr Acheampong urged producers of consumable items, especially drugs, to provide their addresses, location, contents, precaution notes, date of manufacture, batch number and date of expiry of products to guide consumers to make informed choices.
Mr Lawrence Yankey, acting Chief Executive of Ghana Standards Board, urged small-scale entrepreneurs to ensure high standards for their products.
He warned people who replicated the Board’s authorisation mark on their products to desist from the practice since they could be arrested and prosecuted.
Mr Isaac Osei, the Regional Manager of the Environmental Protection Agency, said the operations of some industries were posing problems to the environment and human life.
