Kwamikrom (V/R), Dec 30, GNA – The boycott of the District Assembly elections in some parts of the Biakoye District has turned out to be beneficial to some candidates in those areas.
Leading the pack of beneficiaries was Mr Felix Ameku whose single vote won him the ticket to represent the Kwamikrom New Town in the new District Assembly, Mr Gilbert Amoah, Returning Officer for Kwamikrom, told the Ghana News Agency.
He said Mr Godwin Amatekyi also won the Aboabo/Abohire seat with eight votes beating his closest opponent Mr George Kofi Adai who polled four votes while the Takrabe Electoral seat went to Mr Michael Senya Agbemade with five votes.
On December 27, people from Apesokubi, Worawora, Tapa and Bowiri Traditional areas staged a peaceful demonstration during which they threatened to boycott the elections complaining of not being invited to the inauguration of the newly created Biakoye District with its capital at Nkonya-Ahenkro.
Ms Regina Ahmed, the Biakoye District Officer of the
Electoral Commission, told the GNA that turnout for the elections in
some of the boycotting communities was thin because some youths
in those areas were intimidating people willing to vote prompting the
calling in of more security to protect those willing to vote.
