Cancellation of leaked BECE papers “distressing” – CJ

The Chief Justice Georgina Wood has described the cancellation of five Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers as “distressing news”.

Speaking at a mentoring session with students, the chief judge of Ghana admonished the children against cheating before and during examinations.

According to the Chief Justice, the future looks bleak for Ghana if the future generation got themselves embroiled in crimes such as examination malpractice.

Three students and seven others are currently in police custody over the leaked papers. The students were arrested for possessing some of the leaked papers while the seven others were rounded up in Kumasi in the Ashanti region for allegedly aiding in the fraud.

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has cancelled five papers of the ongoing BECE throughout Ghana. They are the part 2 of English Language; Religious and Moral Education; Integrated Science; Mathematics, and Social Studies.

The leaked papers have been scheduled to be re-taken on June 29 and 30, 2015, according to a statement by the WAEC.
