Canadian High Commission commends media

The Canadian High Commission in Accra, has commended journalists in the Northern Region for highlighting not only the socio-economic problems of the people but also efforts to improve their lot. Mr Mario Ariepy, second secretary at the high commission, said this when he represented the High Commissioner at a get-together for media practitioners in Tamale. He said the media achieved a lot despite the problems of bad roads and lack of transport adding that funding for development projects in the region have been enhanced by their extensive coverage . The Canada Fund for Peace Initiative, committed 685 million cedis towards the reconciliation and rehabilitation efforts after the ethnic conflict in 1994. The Canadian government also funded projects like the construction of schools and clinics and supported agriculture, including livestock. It provided bore-holes through the Canadian International Development Agency in some communities..
