Canadian Envoy Commissions Asesewa Anglican Primary School Block

THE CANADIAN High Commissioner, Mr. Jean-Pierre Bloduc, has commissioned a three-unit classroom block for the Asesewa Anglican Primary School in the Eastern Region.

The ceremony, held on Thursday last week, started at 10 am and took place on the school premises.

The Minister for Women’s Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Gladys Asmah, the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. osafo-Mensah; Hon. Stephen Amoaner, Mp for Upper Manya and Mr. A. K. Teye, Distridt Chief Executive (DCE) for Manya Odumase, were in attendance at the commissioning.

The construction of the classroom block for the school has made a significant contriution to increase enrolment and has enhance effective teaching and learning.

The project has also made basic education more accessible to the poorest of the poor and to the development of human resources bases especially the girl-child.

The project was realised with a significant contribution from the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLA), which is an important element of the Canadian Internationakl Development Agency’s (CIDA’s) intervention in Ghana.

The entire population of Asesewa, in particular 1,000 pupils over a five-year period, will benefit from the project.

The project was selected by the Canadian High Commission because of the potential for promoting accessibility to basic education by the children in the community.

CFLI supports projects in a variety of sectors including health, nutrition, agriculture, education, water and sanitation, human resources development, promotion of human rights and the development of democracy.

Emphasis is placed on projects, which improve the social well-being and economic welfare of the community, particularly of the disadvantaged.

Preference is given to proposals for modest funding to allow the fund to support a larger number of requests.
