Call Health Minister to order – Group to Akufo-Addo

The Ghana Ambassadors for Standard Justice has urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to call the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, to order after his transfer of the Chief Executive of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr Thomas Anaba.

Mr Agyeman-Manu had argued that Dr Anaba had no managerial skills to manage the hospital, previously the Ridge Hospital.

The group at a news conference in Kumasi accused Mr Agyeman-Manu of usurping the powers of another Ministry by transferring Dr Anaba to the University for Development Studies – an autonomous body.

The president of the group, Akepae Michael Adombila, said Dr Anaba went through all the necessary procedures to be appointed the CEO of the hospital, hence his description as a person with no managerial skills by the Health Minister must be disregarded.

Mr Adombila said: “Dr Anaba applied for the position of medical director of the Ridge Hospital which was advertised in the papers. He went through a competitive interview with the Public Services Commission and by virtue of his qualification, experience, and skills, he was the most preferred choice to manage the hospital.

“Under no circumstance should the president sit down unconcerned when all forms of humiliation and discrimination is at the peak. Could it be that the president is directly benefitting from such acts of impunity?

“We are very much in support of the stance taken by Dr Anaba and encourage him to carry on with the fight until justice is delivered. We wish to state that the minister should be called to order and have such a weak decision reversed.”
