Call for support for former primary schools

Moyiri (U/W), Sept.16, GNA – Mr. Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, a Supervising High Court Judge in the Eastern Region, has appealed to people in responsible positions to support the development of primary schools they attended.

He said very often people forget their former primary schools they attended and concentrated more in supporting the development of their former secondary schools.

Mr. Justice Suurbaareh made the appeal when he presented two sets of football jerseys, a hand ball, and 1,000 exercise books to the Moyiri Primary School, his former school in the Nadowli District.

He said the presentation formed part of the fulfillment of a dream that he nurtured to do something for the school that made him who he is today.

He told the pupils that it did not matter where one began school so long as one was determined to learn.

Madam Mary Grace Bonye, Nadowli District Director of Education, appealed to parents, especially mothers, to refrain from sending their daughters to the markets on school days to sell charcoal or to the farm.

She expressed regret at the migration of school children to illegal mining communities to the neglect of schooling and appealed to parents to discourage their children from the practice.

Naa Andrew Maara, Chief of Moyiri, appealed to the District Education Directorate to establish a Junior High School and to drill a borehole for the school.

He said children in the community had been commuting five kilometers daily to either Daffiama or Nadowli to attend Junior High School.

Miss Vida Nadie, a Primary Six pupil of the school expressed her gratitude to Mr. Justice Suurbaareh for providing them with the items.
