Call for rejection of candidature of Tema West aspirant

Accra, July 11, GNA -A New Patriotic Party executive has petitioned the National Chairman of the party to reject the candidature of Ms. Irene Torshie, one of the aspirants in the Tema West constituency primaries.

Mr Felix Fuachie-Sobreh, Polling Station Chairman of the Adonai Electoral Area in the constituency, has questioned the eligibility of the aspirant, saying there was no record of dues paid by Ms. Addo although “by her own account she claims to have paid the dues upfront in one lump sum in 2005 to cover the period up the year ending 2008.” The Tema West constituency primaries have become one of the hottest and the contest is between Ms. Addo and the incumbent, Mr Abraham Ossei-Aidoo, Majority Leader of Parliament.

In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party and made available to the press in Parliament on Friday, Mr. Fuachie-Sobreh also questioned Ms. Addo’s date for joining the party and her commitment to party interests in the area, saying she claimed to have served NPP people in the constituency but this was not true.

“She has not shown demonstrable commitment to developing and nurturing the Tema West branch of the NPP for at least two years.” The polling station chairman said Ms Addo had gone ahead to erect bold banners within the constituency in contravention of party rules that beyond the declaration of interest to run as a candidate, aspirants should desist from holding themselves out as though they have been elected as party representatives for the parliamentary race. He therefore, urged the party to reject the candidature of the Ms Addo.
