CAGD denies restoration of over paid salaries.

Wa, Dec. 14, GNA – The Upper West Regional office of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department has denied claims by some workers in the region that the government had restored the cuts in over paid salaries to certain category of workers in June this year.

It is not true that the government has restored the over payment arising out of the new salary increment announced in April this year, Mr Martin Baare Koh, Acting Regional Director of the department said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Wa on Tuesday.

The government has only given a special flat allowance of 87,000 cedis with effect from July this year for those workers concerned to cushion their current salaries, he said.

According to him, what reflected on the workers pay slips for November included the special allowance and not a representation of the over payment.

In April this year, the central government increased the salaries of civil servants and certain category of public servants by between 26 and 36 per cent.

But after implementation, there were discrepancies which led to the over payment and, thereby, prompting government to make reductions Mr Baare Koh, therefore said what appeared on workers’ pay slips for November included the special allowance.

He advised the workers concerned to be patient and wait for their December pay slips which would soon be delivered before they would know the true position of their salaries.

With regard to the Ghana Education Service, he said their annual increments were always affected in October and November so with the addition of the special allowance, there was bound to be a special increment in their pay.
