Cadet Corps will discipline students-Air Force Commander

Suhum(Eastern Region), 7 Dec. ’98 – Air Vice Marshal J. A. Bruce, Air Force Commander, has said the formation of cadet corps in second cycle institutions is to inculcate discipline and leadership skills in students. These qualities, he said, will help mould the students to become responsible adults. The Air Force Commander said this in an address read for him at a passing-out parade for 60 cadets, including 12 females, at the Suhum Secondary Technical Institute in Suhum. He advised the student cadets to put into practice what they had learnt, reminding them that their aim of joining the corps will be defeated if they only took delight in their ceremonial uniforms. Mr G. W. Gyekye, headmaster of the school, urged the cadets to respect authority and tolerate the views of others, so that with a collective approach, solutions could be found to the school’s problems. He said the authorities would deal with any cadet who will use his or her training to undermine discipline in the school. Cadets, who excelled received awards. Master Sapati Edem was adjudged the over-all best cadet. Among those present at the function was Mr Stephen Frempong Manso, district chief executive for Suhum Kraboa Coaltar.
