Cadet corps to help police combat crime

Ho, Feb. 17, GNA – The Volta Regional Police Command is to adopt cadet corps in Senior High Schools (SHS) as focal points of the community neighbourhood watch concept. The cadet corps would be expected to help check acts of defilement in schools and communities in the region. The Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr David Ampah-Bennin, said this at the first Anniversary celebration of the Volta Regional Cadet Corps. He said the initiative became necessary in view of the Region’s “bad record in defilement.”

Mr Ampah-Bennin said last year, the Region recorded 101 defilement cases, the highest in the country.

He said the Regional Command regards the cadet corps as useful allies in combating crime in schools and the communities. Mr Ampah-Bennin appealed to students in cadet corps to be disciplined and help the Police with useful information in tackling criminal activities in and outside their schools. He said like the police, they are to be peacemakers and expose wrongdoers and people who would want to foment trouble at school and in the community.

Mr Ampoti Wise Dickson, Volta Regional Cadet Corps Coordinator, called for the promotion of cadet corps at schools and communities as a means of developing the character, leadership, comradeship and the ideals of selflessness among the youth. He appealed to heads of SHS in the Region to see the essence of cadetting and allow their students to get involved.
