Cabbie Jailed For Defiling Deaf, Dumb

The Akropong Circuit Court has sentenced a 32-year old taxi driver to seven years in hard labour for defiling a 13-year old deaf and dumb girl. Kwaku Abeiku, the culprit, was said to have lured the victim, a pupil of the Mampong Demonstration School for the Deaf, to his room and forcibly had sex with her.

Briefing the court, Detective Chief Inspector P. K. Nyamekye, said that the girl, who lived with her parents at Mamfe-Akropong, was on October 18, this year, sent on an errand with her younger sister to purchase sachet water, commonly known as ‘pure water’. He said while on their way to buy the sachet water, they saw Abeiku standing in front of his room. He invited them into his room under the pretext of sending them on an errand.

He then asked the younger girl to go for the water and took advantage of her absence to sexually assault the deaf and dumb girl. After the act, he gave her GH¢1. When the younger sister returned, she realised that the zip of her sister’s skirt had been opened and she informed the parents when they got home. The matter was reported to the police who arrested Abeiku. A medical examination conducted on her at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital confirmed that she had been defiled.
