C125mn released to CBOs for AIDS campaign

Atwima-Agogo (Ash), Sept 2, GNA- The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has released 125 million cedis to eight Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) for the campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The beneficiaries included Atwima Youth Centre for Development, Planning for Better Future and Atwima AIDS Drama Troupe. This was made known by Mr Opoku Fofie-Apraku, the Atwima District Focal Person on HIV/AIDS when he inaugurated the Atwima-Agogo Presbyterian Women’s Fellowship on Tuesday.

He said the funds were meant for HIV/AIDS education campaigns and nothing else and warned against the misapplication of the fund. Mr Fofie-Apraku reminded them that without awareness creation and education for people to understand the dreadful nature of the disease, all would not be well for the country.

Mrs Diana Fenteng, a Health Co-ordinator of the Kumasi Metro Education Unit, said about 80 per cent of HIV/AIDS virus is spread through sexual intercourse.

The Reverend Patrick Boamah, Kwadaso District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, said stigmatisation, rejection and discrimination could make people living with HIV/AIDS offensive.
