Cape Coast, June 14, GNA – Dr Samuel Kwashie, deputy Central Regional Director of Health Services, on Wednesday said the region was still grappling with high cases of cholera due to unsanitary conditions in the affected communities and lack of potable water.
He said from January to date, a total of 737 new cholera cases, including 32 deaths had been reported in the region.
Dr Kwashie said during a meeting of heads of departments and Regional Minister designate, Nana Ato Arthur at the residency in Cape Coast.
Dr Kwashie said the Cape Coast municipality; Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem, Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese and Mfantseman districts were the hardest hit in the region.
He said the disease broke out in November last year. He expressed concern about the situation at the Saltpond Government Hospital, which he said, was facing acute water shortage, thereby complicating the epidemic in the area. 14 June 06
