C/R senior citizens feted to mark republic day

Cape Coast, July 1, GNA – More than 100 senior citizens and their spouses in the Central Region were on Tuesday feted by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) as part of activities marking Ghana’s 43rd ‘Republic day’, which was also celebrated as ‘senior citizens day.

The Regional Minister, Mr Isaac Edumadze appealed to Ghanaians to put their political differences aside and unite for the development of the country. According to him, “it is through unity and hard work that the nation could be developed”.

Mr Edumadze asked the people in the region, to stop writing anonymous letters because it could undermine development.

He urged the senior citizens to share their rich experiences with him, and assured them that his office would always be opened to them.

The Deputy Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Ben Asamani said the annual reception organised for senior citizens by the government, was in appreciation of their contribution to national development.

Nana Yaw Kubri II, Abakomahene of Agona Traditional Area, a retired educationist, who chaired the function, prayed for longer life for he and his colleagues to enable them to continue contributing to national development.
