C/R poised for smooth take off of elections

Cape Coast, Dec. 4, GNA – Election materials such as ballot papers and boxes have already been sent to all the 13 Districts in the Central Region for Election 2004 on Tuesday December 7.

The Regional Electoral Officer, Mr Mark Anyimadu stated this in an interview with the GNA at Cape Coast on Saturday.

He said his office, however, took delivery of tactile ballot papers, to be used by the visually impaired in casting their ballots on Friday night, and that they would be sent to the various Districts on Sunday.

He could not tell how many of such ballot papers have been provided, but gave the assurance that “they are enough”.

Mr Anyimadu said a total of 857,323 registered voters in the Region were expected to cast their ballots on Tuesday, at the 1,763 polling stations, in addition to other people, who had had their votes transferred from other regions.

He said a total of 1,763 presiding officers and 7,052 polling assistants had been engaged for Tuesday’s exercise. Meanwhile, a total of 368 special voters, including security and health personnel and Journalists, had turned out to cast their ballots at the Town Hall at Cape Coast on Saturday, when the GNA visited there at 1140 hours.

The Cape Coast Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr Michael Boadu told the GNA that in all, a total of 519 voters were expected to cast their votes.

Polling agents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) were present to monitor the exercise when the Also present were some security personnel.
