Businessman wins first prize of Olympic Games raffle

Accra, Sept. 17, GNA – Mr Kofi Amankwa, an Accra-Tudu based businessman was on Friday presented with the keys to a 15-seater mini bus as the first prize winner of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games Raffle organised by SportOne Network.

Dr Harry Pufaa, Chairman of the National Sports Council on behalf of the Ghana Olympic Committee and the sponsors presented the keys of the vehicle to the joyful Amankwa who was accompanied by his wife to make a ceremonial drive around the stadium.

Mr Amankwa who won the first prize with ticket number 0026791 said it is great for him to win the first prize and expressed his heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Almighty God for the award.

He said two of his cousins had requested him to assist them with tickets to go to the Athens Olympic Games but the amount was too much and so he decided to buy some of the raffle tickets in an effort to win the raffle which he eventually did.

Dr Pufaa said the raffle was fairly conducted and showed the enthusiasm and importance with which Ghanaians and the sports men and women attached to the Olympic Games.

Mr B.T. Baba, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee called on the first prize- winner to keep the inscriptions on the vehicle for at least a year before deciding on what to do next so as to keep promoting the Olympic spirit.

Mrs Adelaide Wallace, also a businesswoman won the second and fourth prizes of DVD recorders with Maclean Yaw Danso and Dora Asare winning the fifth and 15th prizes of DVD recorders.

Some of the winners however expressed misgivings about the wards since they said the organisers were silent about the accompanying tickets for Athens.
