Businessman remanded for defrauding woman of GH? 1,830

A circuit court at Juaso has remanded into prison custody, Kofi Adu, a 47-year-old businessman, for defrauding by false pretence, a woman of GHC 1,830.00. Adu, who sold a building plot he did not own to the woman, pleaded guilty and would reappear before court on September 14.

Chief Inspector Joseph Obeng told the court presided over by Mr. S.K. Sarpong Appiah that the complainant, Mary Korang in May this year informed a friend that she wanted to acquire a building plot and she was directed to the accused.

The court heard that the accused led the complainant to inspect a building plot and collected the amount after negotiations.

Chief Insp. Obeng said some weeks later, the complainant started to develop the land but she was stopped by the grandmother of the accused, who claimed she own the land and had not instructed the accused to sell the property.

The prosecution said when the complainant confronted the accused, he promised to give her another plot but he failed to do so. Chief Insp. Obeng said Adu admitted the offence in his caution statement.
