Accra, Feb. 28, GNA – An Accra Regional Tribunal on Monday sentenced a 43-year-old Businessman to six years’ imprisonment with hard for defrauding the Pentecost Students Association of the University of Ghana, Legon, of 27.1 million cedis. Kwadwo Pobbi Asamani, who pleaded guilty, had promised to secure a Benz bus for the association but he failed to do so.
The case of Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kofi Abraham was that on June 6, 2004 Samuel Dwamena, President of the Association, and three other Executive Members agreed to purchase a bus for the organisation. The Prosecution said Mr Devine Vulley, a Former Executive Member, introduced Mr Dwamena to Asamani as the one who could help them to purchase the vehicle. Mr Dwamena and the other three Executive Members visited Asamani at Awudome Estate where he (Asamani) agreed to get them the vehicle at a cost of 54.2 million cedis.
Asamani took 27.1 million cedis as part payment and asked them to come for the bus the following day but he vanished into thin air. The Prosecution said the case was reported to the Police and Asamani was arrested at his hideout at Kaneshie.
