Businessman jailed 11 years for stealing

An Aflao Circuit Court has sentenced a businessman to 11 years in prison for stealing.

Mali Hashim, 30, was sentenced on his own plea.

Police Chief Inspector Seth Appau told the court presided over by Alhaji Ali Baba Abature that the convict lived in Aflao, while the complainant, Isaka Abdou Rahman lives at Kpedze near Ho.

He said at about 1100 hrs on November 7, the complainant, a teacher at the Islamic Basic School at Segbe near Ho, arrived at Aflao en-route to Lome, Togo.

Mr Appau said Hashim met and ordered the complainant to surrender all currencies on him for his examination on whether they were fake notes.

He said under the pretext of checking the GH?800.00 cash the complainant gave him, the convict stole GH?400.00 out of it and handed over the GH?400.00 balance to the unsuspecting complainant and bolted before the victim checked his money.

At about two weeks later, the complainant returned to the border and at about 0400 hours saw Hashim and alerted a police patrol team.
