A businessman, who attacked an employee of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with a cutlass over the disconnection of power to his property at Bremang UGC in Kumasi is now in trouble with the law.
Steward Frimpong, 40, appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court on Thursday and was refused bail. He is charged with intentionally and unlawfully causing harm but denied any wrongdoing.
He would make his next court appearance on May 28.
Police Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang told the court, presided over by Mr William Boampong, that the victim, Abdulai Safianu Musah, together with other workers of the ECG had gone to the area to disconnect power to consumers indebted to the company on May 5.
He entered the house of the accused where he detected an illegal connection and went ahead to disconnect it.
That angered Frimpong, who chased Musah with a cutlass and slashed his middle finger.
The prosecution said the victim bled profusely and was rushed to the hospital by his co-workers.
A formal report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Frimpong.
He claimed in his caution statement to have acted in self-defense, insisting that he was first attacked with bottles and a piece of wood.
