Adukrom Akuapem, Dec. 11, GNA – Mr Ebenezer Adu-Awuku, a 42 year old London-based businessman, was at the weekend installed the Odikro of Nsutam in the Akuapem North District under the stool name Nana Ohene Asare. He succeeded the late Odikro of the town, Baffour Kwaku Out, who passed away in 2008.
Swearing the oath of allegiance before the Okerehene and chief of Adukrom, Osuodumgya Otutu Konor III, and his elders at Adukrom palace, the new chief promised to be loyal to the people.
He said he would help the chiefs to bring development to the Okere State and beyond and called for unity among the people, which according to him, was the surest way of ensuring speedy development.
Nana Asare said any community without peace and unity could not succeed and, therefore, urged his people to see themselves as one people with a common destiny and help him to bring development to the area. Later in an interview with the GNA, Nana Asare expressed worry about the poor standard of education at Nsutam and its surrounding villages and promised to help to improve the situation.
He called on chiefs, sub-chiefs and parents in the area to invest in their children’s education to ensure a sound and secure future for them. Nana Asare said as a first step to raise the academic standard of his people, he would give scholarship to 30 children who would excel in their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to continue at the Senior High School (SHS) level.
The new chief said he would help provide school infrastructure and also see to the improvement of health delivery for the people in the area. He noted that currently the Nsutam Community had no public place of convenience and community centre for public functions and, therefore, assured that he would provide one of such facilities in the area. Nana Otutu Konor earlier urged the new chief to see himself as a servant rather than a king and serve the people with all humility and bring development to the area.
He said the Nsutam Community was made up of Okere people and Ewes and urged him to bring the two tribes together for them to see themselves as one people. 11 Dec. 10
