Businessman awaiting sentence for stealing

Wa, Sept 17, GNA – A Circuit court in Wa has remanded a 20-year-old businessman in prison custody to await sentence after he had pleaded guilty to stealing a Honda Motorbike valued at 15 million cedis. Karim Sani, a native of Bawku in the Upper East Region, would appear before the court again on September 21 for sentence to be passed on him.

Chief Inspector Joseph Mantey told the court, presided over by Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha that Karim was a Wa based motorbike dealer, while the complainant Mr Issahaque Awudu was the owner of the motorbike with registration number UW117U.

On September 1, this year, the complainant rode the motorbike to his friend’s house at Sawaba, a suburb of Wa, and packed the motorbike outside but later came out only to find that it had been taken away. After several attempts to trace it failed, he reported to the police for assistance.

Chief Inspector Mantey said while the police carried out their investigations, they received information from the Police at Bolgatanga that somebody had been arrested there with the stolen motorbike. According to him, Karim was in the process of selling the motorbike to a buyer but could not produce the documents covering it when the buyer demanded them.

He was therefore reported to the police who arrested him. The businessman admitted the offence but explained that the motorbike was sold to him by somebody whose name he gave only as Nuru, who is at large, for one million cedis.
