Businessman arrested for carrying forged documents

Tarkwa (W/R), Dec 24, GNA- Mr James Aboagye, a businessman at Takoradi, has been arrested for carrying timber logs covered by forged documents.

The vehicle carrying the logs was also impounded at Tarkwa, Mr Yakubu Mohammed, Tarkwa District Manager of Forestry Commission, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Tarkwa on Tuesday. He said field staff of Forestry Commission found the vehicle conveying the logs last Friday at Bogoso-Junction, a suburb of Tarkwa, with suspicious marks on the logs.

The field officers demanded the certificate of conveyance covering seven “Ofram” timber logs.

The certificate indicated that the logs were being conveyed from Nkawie in the Ashanti Region.

Mr Mohammed said when the Nkawie District Manager of Forestry Commission was contacted on telephone it was found out that the supposed authorising officer who issued the certificate of conveyance was not from Nkawie.

Again, he said, the Nkawie District Manager’s stamp embossed on the certificate of conveyance was also forged.
