Business and Computer College is inaugurated

Nkoranza (B/A), July 4, GNA – Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, has said the government would not relent in efforts at enhancing private sector development. He said the government was committed to this goal “because of the immense contribution the sector is making towards accelerated national development”.

Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi said this in a speech read for him at the inauguration of the Yahweh Shalom Business and Computer College at Nkoranza.

He said the government recognized and appreciated the role the private sector was playing through the creation of job opportunities for the youth, thereby helping to solve the unemployment problem. Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi commended the proprietor of the school for his foresight in establishing the college in Nkoranza to help unearth talents.

He donated two million cedis in support of the development programmes of the school.

Dr. Kwaku Gyasi Badu, Senior Assistant Registrar at the University of Cape Coast, commended the government for promoting and encouraging the development of vocational and technical education to enable the youth to acquire employable skills.

Mr. Nicholas Owusu-Acheaw, Headmaster, said the school, which was started in 2004 with 64 students, had 150 students.

He said the school achieved 100 percent in the external National Vocational Training Institute in November 2005, 96 percent in May 2006, and 98 percent in November 2006 and was adjudged the overall best in the Brong-Ahafo Region in 2005.

Mr. Abubakari Ankomah, Chairman of the parent teacher association gave the assurance that the association would support the school to enable it to grow.
