Wa (U/W), June 24, – About 593 small-scale entrepreneurs have been trained in the Upper West region by the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) since its establishment in the region two years ago. Mr E.M. Addu-Darkwah, regional manager of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), announced this at the closing of a five-day management appreciation seminar for 27 small-scale entrepreneurs in Wa yesterday. He mentioned the beneficiaries as dressmakers, hairdressers, carpenters, welders and photographers who were taken through topics such as record keeping, quality improvement and control, business planning and marketing and customer relations. Mr Adu-Darkwah said since the decentralisation of the Business Assistance Fund (BAF) early this year in the region, it has approved loans totalling 18.8 million cedis to 70 applicants. Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Upper West regional minister, called on the entrepreneurs to think about the best way to operate without causing any environmental hazard since some of their operations lead to exploitation and pollution of the environment.
