Bushfires raze cashew farms, nuts

Tuobodom (B/A) Mar. 31 GNA – Bushfires have destroyed about 30 hectares of cashew farms belonging to 11 farmers at Tuobodom in Techiman municipality.

Mr. Appiagyei Baffour, NADMO Zonal Co-Ordinator in-charge of Tuobodom told Ghana News Agency it was estimated that about 150 bags of cashew nuts were also lost in the disasters.

He expressed concern about the attitude of some unscrupulous people to continue to burn the bush to destroy people’s farms and property in spite of the campaign against bushfires.

The NADMO Co-Ordinator called on the law enforcing agencies to deal drastically with such people when caught as they had always been treated with leniency.

In another development, fire destroyed a two-thatched house belonging to Mr. Luka Banako, a farmer at Tuobodom, causing damage to personnel property worth about eight million cedis.

The farmer said he suspected that some youth who used to study with a candle might have left it on and gone to bed resulting in the disaster.

He appealed to the NADMO, NNGOs, Churches and public-spirited individuals to go to the aid of the affected persons who were currently putting up with friends and relations.
