Bus conductor Remanded for Assaulting Police Officer 

The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday October 21,2025 remanded a 24-year-old bus conductor, Benjamin Agyen, popularly known as Ben 10, into police custody for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

Chief Inspector, Owusu Kobi Moses, Prosecuting,told the Court presided over by His Lordship Simon Nketiah Gagah that the complainant, No. 56690 G/L/Cpl. Crispin Afena, is a police officer stationed at the Regional Operations Unit – Ashanti North while the accused, Benjamin Agyen, is a bus conductor and a resident of Ahenkro.

The Prosecutor said on October 7, 2025, the complainant and four other officers, on October7,2025 boarded service vehicle number GP 674, driven by G/Sgt. Richard Odjao, were dispatched on an operation following a tip-off from their unit commander.

The Prosecutor added that about ten individuals were engaged in trading and smoking substances suspected to be Indian hemp at Offinso Ahenkro.

He added that the Police Officers upon arrival, at the crime scene attempted to arrest the suspects, but they resisted, leading to a violent scuffle.

He emphasized that during the ensuing confrontation, Agyen allegedly pulled out a pair of scissors concealed in his pocket and unexpectedly stabbed Corporal Afena on the forehead.

The officer, according to the Prosecutor reportedly bled profusely and became weak, allowing the accused to stab him twice more—once on the head and again beneath the chin.

Colleagues of the injured officer, who were chasing other suspects, quickly intervened and managed to arrest Agyen.

During interrogation, the accused admitted to the offence in his caution statement , explaining that he had gone to one “Auntie Serwaa’s weed base” to smoke and panicked when he saw the police officers.

In an attempt to escape an arrest, the accused claimed to have used the scissors in self-defense.

The case, presided over by His Lordship Simon Nketia Gagah, did not take the accused’s plea. Agyen was subsequently remanded into police custody to reappear before the court on October 29, 2025, for his plea to be taken.
