Brong Ahafo’s voter registration exercise was smooth

Sunyani, (B/A) July 22, GNA – The Brong-Ahafo Region registered 131,247 voters at the end of the recent national voters registration revision exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The projected figure with reference point of 2008 limited voter registration was 184,509, Mr. Samuel Boadu, a Deputy Regional Director of the EC told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Thursday, in Sunyani.

He said in comparison the figure in the recently ended exercise was about 28.8 percent less than the expected figure with respect to 2008.

Mr. Boadu explained that: “the shortfall could be that we are not in an election year, so the enthusiasm that will trigger people to go and register is not there.” “It could also be that the right number of people who turned 18 years and above went to register, he added.

The Deputy Director commented that the exercise went well and smooth because generally there was no shortage of registration materials.

He indicated they did not encounter any problems from the political parties and their agents whilst at the end of it also the office had received no complaint from any of the political parties.
