Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command take steps to control crime

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command is embarking on special operations, to clampdown on the recent rise in criminal activities in the region.

Criminal activities such as armed robbery; snatching of cars, bags, mobile phones and pick pocketing are said to be the increase in the Region, especially in Techiman and Sunyani Municipalities.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Robert Ayalingo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) described the current security situation as a threat to the people.

He noted that most of the criminals arrested so far in the Region were from Kumasi and Accra after the security services had intensified their operations to arrest them in those areas.

DCOP Ayalingo said the Police were determined to make the Brong Ahafo Region also uncomfortable for the criminals.

About 60 unlicensed motor bikes and 10 unlicensed vehicles, he said, were impounded during the operation, and their owners would be prosecuted.

He explained that most of the impounded motor bikes belonged to agents of political parties who used them for the Election 2012 campaign and failed to return them to the parties.

DCOP Ayalingo urged users of motor bikes and drivers to register them to acquire the requisite documents since the Police would not tolerate unlicensed motor bikes and vehicles on the road.

He advised the public to take security precautions at home and work places seriously to make it difficult for criminals to operate.
