Brong Ahafo MPs donate 105 million cedis to Catholic Varsity

Sunyani, December 27, GNA- All Members of Parliament from Brong Ahafo on Friday presented a cheque for 105 million cedis to the Catholic University of Fiapre in Sunyani.

Captain Nkrabea Effah-Darteh (rtd), MP for Berekum gave the cheque to Most Reverend Mathew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani, on behalf of the MPs.

He was accompanied by Mr J. H Mensah, Senior Minister and MP for Sunyani East and Mr Stephen Adoma-Yeboah, MP for Dormaa East. Captain Effah Darteh who is also the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development said the donation was in fulfilment of a pledge the MPs made at the inauguration of the University last November.

He said they authorised the Administrator of the Common Fund to deduct five million cedis from each of the 21 MPs share of the MP common fund.

The Deputy Minister expressed the hope that students of the university who are mostly citizens of Brong Ahafo, would remain after their courses to help develop the region.

Bishop Gyamfi on behalf of the university council and the Catholic Bishop Conference expressed gratitude to the MPs.

He urged the youth in the region to take advantage of the school to educate themselves so that they could contribute effectively to the growth of the region.

The Bishop noted that ‘the region is far behind in education’ and called on chiefs and all citizens of the region to support the university.

Present were Very Reverend, Father George Kwame Kumi, Vicar General, Very Reverend, Father Andrew Amankwa, Counsellor and Very Reverend Father Peter Dery, financial administrator.
