Brong-Ahafo Chiefs commend Regional Security Council

The Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has lauded efforts by the Regional Security Council to handle situations that threatened peace in the Region.

Pemapem Yaw Kagbrese V, the President of the House, said he was optimistic that such efforts would be maintained to ensure peace and stability in the Region.

Addressing the end of year meeting of the House in Sunyani, Pemapem Yaw Kagbrese, the Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area, said the Region had in the past years been plagued with perennial chieftaincy disputes.

This, he said, had not only become a threat to the regional or national security, but also sought to undermine the integrity and authority of the chieftaincy institution which did not augur well for its development and sustenance.

Pemapem Yaw Kagbrese said the Regional Security Council had been more responsive and proactive in helping to maintain peace and working towards resolving the 54 chieftaincy cases pending before the Judicial Committee of the House.

He said some of such cases had been pending for years because it took a long time before the House was able to engage the services of a permanent counsel.

Pemapem Yaw Kagbrese commended the chiefs and people of Hwidiem, Sankore and Nsoatre for their efforts in installing their Paramount Chiefs to end their long disputes.

He spoke about the dry season and appealed to the chiefs to lead the crusade against bush and wild fires.

“We are entering the dry season and as this is a crucial time, we must be very conscious and not relent in our efforts in educating our subjects about indiscriminate bush burning which brings untold hardship”, he said.

Mr. Justice Samuel Adjei, the Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, commended the house for its support towards accelerated national development.

He said since chiefs are the embodiment of the people the government, through Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs and the Regional Co-ordinating Council, would continue to engage them in decision making at all levels.

Mr. Adjei expressed optimism that the House would be able to resolve the chieftaincy disputes in the region to assist in consolidating the prevailing peace in the region.
