Accra, Feb. 1, GNA – The British Royal Navy Ship, HMS Liverpool, would visit the Tema Port from February 6 to February 10. A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday said the Ship was part of the Royal Navy’s South Atlantic patrol force providing “a tangible UK maritime presence” in the South Atlantic as well as providing a presence in West Africa in support of UN and United Kingdom interests. The statement said the purpose of the visit, the first by the Ship, was to “demonstrate and reinforce bilateral ties” between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
It said four young Ghanaian Naval Officers had joined the Ship in Freetown, Sierra Leone, for familiarization training. The Ship would carry out joint manoeuvres with the Ghana Navy. HMS Liverpool was launched in 1980 and commissioned in 1982. She is equipped with a Sea Dart surface to air missiles.
