British High Commissioner calls on Minister of Education

Accra, June 30, GNA – Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Minister of Education, has commended the British Government for its immense assistance to education development in the country.

She said the assistance had promoted basic education in the country. Mrs Mould-Iddrisu made the commendation when Mr Peter Jones, British High Commissioner to Ghana paid a courtesy call on her in Accra.

She observed that many challenges facing the education sector such as inadequate infrastructure facilities and ineffective supervision of schools by some educational authorities were being addressed by the Ministry.

Mrs Mould-Iddrisu gave the assurance that her administration would put in place all the necessary facilities to ensure effective teaching and learning in schools.

On teacher motivation, the Sector Minister said government was determined to ensure that teachers’ accommodation were catered for to enable teachers take up employment in deprived areas.

Mr Jones assured the Sector Minister of continuous support from the British Government to improve education in the country.

He pledged to implement plans that had been drawn by the Department for International Development (DFID) for the education sector in the country.
